Why Dog Shows?
Every purebred dog breed recognized by the American Kennel Club (AKC) has a written standard that describes in detail what the dog should look like. Dedicated breeders and fanciers take this standard very seriously. It is the quality control document for the breed.
The purpose of exhibiting a dog in a dog show is to earn points toward achieving Champion status for the dog. A dog with a Champion title has been examined by a minimum of three judges in three different dogs shows and has been deemed by the subjective opinion of those judges as being the dog or bitch, at that show, that most closely meets the description of the perfect dog described in the breed standard. This process of showing the dogs in competition is intended to maintain purity of the breed.
