National Breeders Trophy
The New Criteria
Updated by Winnie Vogel
October, 2007
HISTORY:
A motion by Winnie Vogel was passed by the Board of Directors of the SBCA in 1996 to honor the breeder who produced the most winners at our National Specialty Show each year.
A committee consisting of Glenn Radcliffe, Bob Sykora, and Winnie Vogel established the rules to honor the breeders. The original trophy was designed and created by Marty Thurman. This trophy was destroyed in shipment and since then another was created.
A keepsake picture of the original trophy is given to the honoree when the trophy is returned each year. This is a signed, limited edition (100 made) print by Lee Ehrenkranz from a photo of the original trophy. The winners name and year won (done in fancy script) will appear on the base of the print.
A copy of the rules as well as a list of the names of those who have won the award should be placed on the SBCA web site as a matter of historical record. The list of past winners should also appear in the National Specialty show catalog each year also.
NATIONAL BREEDERS TROPHY RULES
This trophy is to be awarded annually at the Annual Dinner. It is awarded based on points accumulated at that year’s National Specialty Show.
The trophy is to be kept for one year. At the end of that year, a limited edition (100 made) print will be awarded, at the Annual Dinner, as a remembrance.
This award is open to all breeders who had dogs exhibited at the National, BUT to take possession of the trophy itself, the winner must be a member in good standing of the St. Bernard Club of America (like the Gould trophy)
The board members, from the section of the country in which the National is being held will be in charge of the counting for that National or they can appoint someone to tally the points.
Conditions:
- The top 5 dogs of any one breeder entered in regular conformation classes at the National show will be considered.
- Co-breeders:
A. If the last names are the same and part of the immediate family, points
will be awarded to that family.
EXAMPLE: H. Vogel & W. Vogel—points awarded to Vogel
B. Where the last names are not the same, points will be split equally between the co-breeders.
EXAMPLE: H. Vogel & L. Buns----points split equally
C. There is an exception to condition B. above. If, before the show begins, co- breeders wish to be counted as one, they must advise the designated counters of this fact. If this is not done the
points will be split as in B above. A breeder can do this with only one set of co-breeders per National.
EXAMPLE:
a. Palmblad & Hathaway designate they wish
to be counted as one.(all points awarded to
Dogs they co-breed go to Palmblad &
Hathaway) as a separate tally
b. Palmblad---points are awarded to just
Palmblad—as a separate breeder
c. Palmblad & Jones---points are split between
Palmblad & Jones and Palmblad’s points are
added to the Palmblad only breeder tally.
