Dog Writers Association of America - Award Nomination

December, 2009

Poway, CA- The Dog Writers Association of America announced the finalists for their 2009 Writing Competition in the National Club Magazine category. The Saint Fancier, published by the Saint Bernard Club of America, has been selected as a finalist for this prestigious award.

The DWAA Annual Banquet and Awards Ceremony will be held in New York City on Sunday, February 14, 2010 at the Affinia Manhattan Hotel. On February 15-16, the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show will be held across the street at Madison Square Garden.

Glenn A. Radcliffe, Managing Editor of the Saint Fancier, was contacted for comment concerning the fact this nomination came just a little more than a year into what the club refers to as their new format.  “Our publication has a long history of chronicling the development of the breed. Our new format simply utilized modern techniques and the skills of the hard working staff to produce a publication with wide appeal and rich in images.

“Any accolades received by the Saint Fancier would not have been possible had the current Board of Directors not shared the vision and trusted the Fancier Staff to bring this untried format to fruition."  states Mr. Radcliffe.

A full list of all awards will be published in the DWAA newsletter or at the web site www.dwaa.org after the awards dinner on February 14, 2010

"The Dog Writers Association of America is an old organization having been around for 75 years.  Each year we have a competition for writing in various categories.  The entries are sent in from publishers, clubs, editors and individual writers in the various categories.  The judges, about 80 of them, are picked for their knowledge and experience in being a writer.  The nominees are picked from the group of entries and they are then judged again to determine the content and presentation.
The winners receive the Maxwell Award which is considered excellence in writing ability by the dog writing world."
